By ANN BLOOM For the Wallowa County Chieftain - Oregon ENTERPRISE — At about 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 30, Donna and Adam Roberge were awakened by the sound of their dog, Dakota, vomiting. Dakota, a 4-year-old pit bull-German shepherd mix — “a sweet dog,” Donna said — then had a seizure, jerking and frothing at the mouth. The Roberges had had Dakota from the time the dog was a puppy. But from that moment on Oct. 30, Dakota was never the same sweet dog. Their family pet “looked at me and didn’t recognize me,” said Adam. The dog then started to lunge at the couple’s daughters, Savannah, 11, and Celina, 14, trying to bite them. The parents made their daughters stay in their bedroom, door closed, for their own protection. This went on for two hours, an 80-pound dog loose in the house, parents barricaded inside their bedrooms, their daughters barricaded in theirs. Rosanna Xia - Los Angeles Times (TNS) Aug 10, 2024 - https://www.hastingstribune.com LOS ANGELES — A woman in Northern California was killed this week in what appeared to be a dog attack, and authorities are investigating whether any of the 25 Great Danes found roaming the area may be behind the fatal mauling. Just before 2 a.m. Thursday, a resident came across a body on Blackhawk Trail in Feather Falls, not far from Lake Oroville. He called the police, and deputies responded to the scene, according to the Butte County Sheriff's Office. The woman was later identified as Davina Corbin, 56, who lived in the area. An autopsy found numerous bite marks and other injuries that pointed to a domestic dog attack, authorities said, and the evidence indicates she was out on a walk when she was mauled. 2023 1. California California took the top spot with 727 canine bite incidents on USPS workers in 2023, with four of its cities on the top 20 list. Los Angeles ranked No. 1 for the most dog attacks with 65, while San Diego was No. 6 at 41 attacks. Sacramento came in at No. 16 on the list with 26 bites, and San Francisco ranked No. 19 with 20 attacks. 2. Texas Texas, the second-largest state in population, ranked second for the most dog attacks on postal workers last year too, at 411. (KPTV/Gray News) - A Portland mother of two is fighting for her life after she was attacked by a group of dogs. Mytoka Petry was on a walk in the North Portland area earlier this week when eight dogs randomly attacked her. Portland police said the attack happened near a homeless encampment and it turned into a chaotic scene. Two people tried intervening, but they too were injured with one being sent to the hospital with serious injuries. Our nonprofit's capture rate fell due to macro-level forces. DogsBite.org - Last September, we published the 2020 Macro-Level Forces Report for U.S. dog bite fatality data. During 2020, the first Covid year, our nonprofit had a 15-victim deficit compared to CDC Wonder underlying cause of death (UCD) data, a 28% difference in the number of deaths. The victim deficit during the second pandemic year is even higher. CDC Wonder data shows there were 81 dog bite fatalities in 2021.
