FRANKLIN CO., Ala. (WAFF) – A sentencing hearing in the case of a woman convicted in two deadly dog maulings will now be rescheduled.
Back in 2022, the two women were attacked by a pack of dogs a day apart and both women ultimately died.
This, after people were left waiting all day when her attorney did not show up. Originally, Brandy Dowdy’s sentencing hearing was set for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, but now it’s having to be rescheduled.
After hours of waiting, the judge over the case called everyone into the courtroom about 4:30 p.m. to provide an update.
The judge said that Dowdy’s attorney had a medical emergency happen Tuesday morning and had to get treatment.

The Franklin County Assistant District Attorney says this is frustrating for the victims’ families as most of them traveled from very far, including Washington state for this hearing.
Family members of Summer Beard and Michelle Sheeks are beyond frustrated with the way the day has gone as the hearing was set for 9, and an update was then given about seven hours later.

Dowdy was found guilty of manslaughter in the case of Summer Beard and guilty of criminally negligent homicide in the case of Michelle Sheeks.
